Sweet, Spicy, and Full of Flavor! These Hot Honey Wings will become your new obsession. Cooked until crispy and tossed in a homemade hot honey sauce, these wings are sure to please!

The Sweet & Spicy Combo You Need!

Lately, I have been obsessed with the combo of sweet and spicy! The initial sweetness with the kick of heat at the end has been an amazing flavor combo to try. Depending on what spices and sweeteners you use, you can create an entirely different flavor profile!

My Easy Hot Honey Chicken Wings did just that and more! These wings were crispy and flavorful just on their own. But, when I tossed them in a sweet and spicy hot honey sauce, they were mouthwatering! You’ll never want wings the same way again!

MAKE THEM BAKED OR AIR-FRIED!

These wings are so easy and delicious. But, I know that deep-frying is not the healthiest cooking method. Baking or Airfrying these wings require a slightly different set of directions, but the flavor is just the same! Take a look below for steps to make these wings baked or air-fried.

Baked or Air-Fried Wing Option:

  • Remove the flour, cornstarch, and frying oil from the recipe.

  • Heat the oven to 425°F or the air-frier to 400°F

  • Add 1 tbsp of baking powder to the seasoning mix. Toss the wings in the seasoning. The baking powder will help to create crispy wings.

  • Bake on a ½ sheet tray with a wire rack sprayed with non-stick spray. Bake or air-fry until crispy and fully cooked (about 20 - 25 minutes).

  • Turn the wings occasionally to maximize their crispiness.

  • Toss the wings in the sauce, garnish, and enjoy!

Hot Honey Chicken Wings Ingredients:

Okay now, let’s talk ingredients! These ingredients are very easy to find and use! You probably have a majority of them already in your pantry.

  • Chicken Wings: You can either buy the wings whole and cut them yourself, or buy the party wings pre-cut. It is solely up to you. If you decide to buy the frozen wings, make sure that they are fully thawed and dried before seasoning.

  • Seasoning Mix: You always should season both your chicken and the dry mix it gets tossed in. You want flavor throughout the entire wing! I used a basic seasoning mix of kosher salt, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, and ground black pepper.

  • Dry Mix: I tossed the chicken wings in a dry mix before frying for some extra crispiness. All you need is all-purpose flour and cornstarch. The cornstarch makes the wings even more crispy! Make sure to use the amounts listed. Too much or too little of each will change the texture on the outside of the wings.

  • Eggs: Eggs have been one of my favorite things to add to my wings after seasoning. Mixing the eggs into the wings before coating will help the dry mix to stick to the wings a lot better.

  • Frying Oil: Choosing the right oil is very important when it comes to frying. Here are some of my favorite fats to fry: vegetable oil, canola oil, peanut oil, corn oil, and vegetable shortening (i.e. Crisco).

  • Fresh Garlic: The fresh garlic was a great addition to the wing sauce! I personally prefer fresh over pre-packaged. But you can use pre-minced garlic if that’s all you have!

  • Honey: You can’t have Hot Honey Wings without honey! I used basic clover honey for this recipe. Other honey such as wildflower will work just fine as well.

  • Hot Sauce: To add some extra heat, I added ¼ cup of hot sauce to the hot honey sauce. Any hot sauce that you prefer will work. I do suggest using a thicker hot sauce to aid in the overall consistency of the sauce (i.e. Frank’s RedHot)

  • Apple Cider Vinegar: To help level out some of the heat in the sauce, I added some apple cider vinegar. You only need a small amount. Plus, it is a sweet vinegar that works great with this sauce.

  • Red Pepper Flakes: A lot of hot honey recipes include red pepper flakes. It adds the “hot” to hot honey. A small amount goes a long way, so don’t get carried away with these.

How to Make Hot Honey Chicken Wings:

These wings are full of flavor! One of these wings just wasn’t enough! Did I mention they’re easy to make and take no time at all?

The full written recipe is below, but here’s an overview.

  • STEP 1: Heat the Oil & Make the Seasoning Mix. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavily weighted pot on medium-high heat. Mix the kosher salt, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, and ground black pepper in a large bowl.

  • STEP 2: Season the Wings. Clean the wings and remove any excess skin. Make sure the wings are fully dry before seasoning. In another large bowl, season the wings with vegetable oil and ½ of the seasoning mix. Add the beaten eggs to the chicken and mix. Allow the chicken wings to sit for 3 – 5 minutes.

  • STEP 3: Dredge the Wings. In a large bowl or plastic freezer bag, mix the flour, cornstarch, and remaining seasoning mix. In batches, toss the chicken wings in the dry mix until fully coated. Shake off any excess of the mixture.

  • STEP 4: Fry the Wings. Begin frying the wings in batches when the oil reaches between 350 – 360 degrees F. Fry until golden brown and crispy (about 6 – 8 minutes). The wings should reach 165 degrees F internally. Remove from the oil and drain on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate.

  • STEP 5: Make the Hot Honey Sauce. While the wings are frying, add 1 tbsp of cooking oil to a saucepot on medium heat. Sauté the garlic for 1 minute. Add the honey, hot sauce, apple cider vinegar, and red pepper flakes. Allow the mixture to come to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes. Hold the sauce hot.

  • STEP 6: Toss & Serve the Wings. Toss the wings in the heated sauce. Make sure they are fully coated in sauce. Drizzle with extra sauce, serve, and enjoy!
