Southern Peach Iced Tea

Sweet and full of fresh peach flavor! Made with a homemade peach syrup and fresh black tea, my Southern Peach Iced Tea is the perfect beverage to quench your thirst no matter the weather.

A Refreshing Twist!

Y’all...it’s been HOT! With the high temps and Maryland’s crazy humidity, I constantly need a cold drink. Nothing keeps me cooler (outside of water lol), than a VERY LARGE glass of Sweet Tea! But this time around, let’s make it PEACH!

My Southern Peach Iced Tea is a twist on the house wine of the South! I am a sweet lover, and this tea didn’t disappoint! Made with a homemade peach syrup and freshly brewed black tea, it’s a must-have all year long.

TIPS for making the Best Sweet Tea:

Here a just a few of my favorite tips & tricks for making the BEST Sweet Tea ever!

  • Never Over-Steep/Brew the Tea. Oversteeping the tea will make the overly bitter and acidic. You want a perfectly brewed tea that is dark in color, but bright in overall tea flavor. So make sure to not leave your tea bags in over 20 - 25 minutes.

  • Don’t Squeeze your Tea Bags after steeping. I know some of us are used to squeezing every little bit of flavor out of those tea bags, but it’s honestly not necessary. Squeezing will add all of those remaining bitter notes from the tea bags.

  • Use as Many Fresh Ingredients as possible. With any drink, you can easily taste when something tastes off or artificial. I love adding fresh fruits into my simple syrups and garnishes to really bring a freshness to the tea.

  • Try Adding in some Mint Leaves! The mint is totally optional, but it brings a nice cooling sensation to the tea on top of the cold ice. Plus, it makes your pitcher of tea look even more delicious.

Southern Peach Iced Tea Ingredients

The ingredients are pretty simple in this recipe; but, let’s still walk through them to understand them. They are also so easy to find in any grocery store. They are all relatively cheap which makes this drink recipe even better!

ICED Tea:

  • Water: You can’t make iced tea without water! The tea bags will steep in the hot water releasing the flavors from the dried tea leaves. If you can, try using filtered water for a pure and clean-tasting tea.

  • Black Tea Bags: You’re going to want 8 – 10 black tea bags for this recipe. I always use my old faithfuls, Lipton Tea Bags. But you can use your favorite brand of black tea bags. Make sure that they aren’t flavored tea bags.

  • Fresh Lemon Juice: Y’all already know I love some fresh lemon juice! It is a must in any iced tea. It helps to balance all of the flavors in the tea making it taste even better.

  • Garnishes: I love it when recipes taste as good as they look. So, I added in some peach slices and fresh mint leaves to add some extra visual to my tea.

Peach Syrup:

  • Fresh Peaches: Peach season is one of my favorite fruit seasons during the year! I recommend using fresh peaches for your syrup to get the most peach flavor in your tea. Make sure that they are ripe, rinsed, pitted, & cut into slices.

  • Water: The water helps to dissolve the sugar and extract the juices and oils from the peaches.

  • Granulated Sugar: I used good old, granulated sugar to make my simple syrup and help to sweeten the peaches. You can use organic cane sugar if you prefer to use a less processed sugar.

How to make Southern Peach Iced Tea

Now that we have our ingredients, let’s make this easy sweet tea recipe! This recipe will take no time at all! When I tell y’all that I couldn’t get enough of this tea, I mean it! It was one of the most refreshing I’ve had in a while.

The full written recipe is below, but here’s an overview.

  • STEP 1: Steep the Black Tea. In a large pot or kettle, bring the water to a boil. Once boiled, remove from heat. Add the tea bags and stir to get the tea bags fully saturated. Let the tea steep for 20 - 25 minutes depending on your preference. Meanwhile, make the peach syrup.

  • STEP 2: Make Peach Simple Syrup. In a large saucepot or skillet over, add the peaches, water, and granulated sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil. Turn the heat down to simmer and cook for 15 minutes, making sure to stir every so often.

  • STEP 3: Strain Syrup. Remove the syrup from the heat. Crush the peaches with a fork or masher. Carefully strain the mixture over a fine mesh sieve. Use a spoon or spatula back to firmly press the peaches to extract as much peach syrup as you can. Discard the peach pulp or add it to the tea at the end.

  • STEP 4: Mix the Ingredients Together. Remove the tea bags from the tea. Allow the tea and syrup to come to room temperature. In a large pitcher, add fresh peach slices and mint leaves. Pour in the black tea, lemon juice, and peach syrup. Stir everything together to fully combine.

  • STEP 5: Serve over Ice & Enjoy! To serve, pour the tea over glasses of ice. Garnish with additional peach slices and mint leaves. Enjoy!

Can I make this drink in advance?

Yes! You can definitely make this tea ahead of time. Here’s how to do it:

I actually prefer to make my iced tea the night before an event to allow the peach syrup to fully sit in the tea. Plus, your tea will be ice cold and ready for drinking the next day!

You can also make your peach syrup and iced tea separately and mix them the day you plan to serve it.

I suggest adding your peach slices and fresh mint leaves right before you decide to serve your tea just so that they won’t break down and wilt too much.
