A Classic with a Twist!

Summertime is the perfect time to have something refreshing and cold to drink! With this being my first drink recipe, I knew I had to have something homemade and delicious! I love a good lemonade during these crazy hot and humid Maryland summers.

But, this time, I wanted something different! My Watermelon Kiwi Lemonade Recipe has become one of my favorite versions of lemonade thus far! This experimentation was one that I’m glad I stumbled upon! With only 6 ingredients, I know y’all will love this recipe!

TIPS & TRICKS

Here a just a few of my favorite tips & tricks for making the BEST Lemonade ever!

  • Try Making a Simple Syrup 1st! Take the amount of sugar listed in the recipe below and mix it with 1 cup of water. Bring it to a simmer and allow the sugar to completely dissolve. Then, mix it with the lemon juice.

  • Add the zest of the Lemons. The zest of the lemons actually has more lemon flavor than the juice itself. Zest the lemon first and then mix it with the lemon juice. The lemon flavor will be crazy good!

  • ALWAYS USE FRESH LEMON JUICE! Concentrated bottled lemon juice is pasteurized in order to increase its shelflife. The flavor is not what you want at all in lemonade. Fresh lemons will require more time, but the flavor will be SO MUCH better!

Watermelon Kiwi Lemonade Ingredients

The ingredients are pretty simple in this recipe; but, let’s still walk through them to understand them. They are also so easy to find in any grocery store. They are all relatively cheap which makes this drink recipe even better!

  • Watermelon: I always suggest using fresh juice for homemade lemonades. You can juice and strain some fresh watermelon yourself; or, you can buy fresh watermelon juice. Make sure that the juice is fully strained before using.

  • Fresh Mint Leaves: Adding a few mint leaves is always a great way to brighten up your lemonade recipes. You can also use some mint simple syrup if you cannot find fresh mint leaves.

  • Fresh Kiwis: The fresh kiwi juice made a big difference in this recipe. I made it one of the base ingredients for the lemonade. Make sure that it is fully pureed and strained before using. You can also buy fresh kiwi juice at your local grocery store.

  • Lemon Juice: Whenever you make fresh lemonade, please use fresh lemon juice! The bottled lemon juice is pasteurized and will not give you the same end product at all. It might take a little more time, but the taste will be so much better!

  • Water: The water will help to dilute the acidic and sugary taste of the mixture. To make the sugar dissolve even better, I suggest using hot water. You can later cool the lemonade down in the refrigerator.

  • Granulated Sugar: I like lemonade that isn’t overly sweet, but definitely sweet enough! I used about 1½ cups of granulated sugar. It was the perfect amount! But, feel free to add more sugar based on your taste.

Can I make this drink in advance?

Yes! You most definitely can! Here’s how to do it:

  • Make the Kiwi Lemonade 1st. Store it in a pitcher or air-tight container and place it in the refrigerator.

  • Have the Watermelon Juice ready. Juice the watermelons and strain the juice. Store it in a pitcher or air-tight container and place it in the refrigerator.

  • Combine the two on the day that you want to have it ready for your guests. You can also create the ombre effect on the day that you want to serve as well!

  • Serve the lemonade with ice and enjoy! The lemonade will last for 6 - 7 days in the refrigerator.
